The Rwandan community in the Netherlands at the weekend concluded an event that raised Euro 33,400 (about Rwf28.6m) towards the Agaciro Development Fund. The launch and fundraising event drew around 300 Rwandans and friends. During the event, Rwandan artiste Afsana Rahamatali entertained the audience. while different items bearing Agaciro-related message were auctioned. Participants were encouraged to selflessly support the Fund as it was created to supplement other efforts related to specific national priorities, according to a statement from the embassy. Alphonse Muleefu, a PhD student in the Netherlands, yesterday said, that the event that started at midday till late in the evening was well attended."Agaciro is one of those things where the government has been direct in making it clear that the country’s development is in our own hands. The symbolism is beyond the usual contribution through taxes,” Muleefu said. During the event, Immaculee Uwanyiligira, Rwanda’s envoy in the Netherlands, explained the concept behind the Fund and encouraged selflessness.
