More DRC refugees relocated to Zambia

LUSAKA-The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), Friday relocated another batch of Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) refugees to a refugee camp in the northwestern part of the country following the influx of the refugees into Zambia in recent weeks.

LUSAKA-The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), Friday relocated another batch of Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) refugees to a refugee camp in the northwestern part of the country following the influx of the refugees into Zambia in recent weeks.More refugees have continued to enter Zambia in Luapula Province which borders that country and have temporarily been kept temporal shelters.UNHCR Public Relations Officer in Zambia Kelvin Shimoh said in a statement that 67 refugees have been relocated to Meheba Refugee camp in northwestern Zambia’s Solwezi district as part of a joint venture with the Zambian government. He said the relocation is the third since December last year, when 222 Congolese refugees were transferred to the refugee settlement.Last year, a total of 2, 502 DRC refugees were registered in Zambia as new arrivals fleeing from their country for various reasons, but mainly unrest in the eastern part of that country. Currently, Zambia hosts 15,000 Congolese refugees. Agencies
