Alice muhoza was in the right place at the wrong time. That innocence, though, cost her life as petty thieves, who were helping themselves with her grandmother’s beans in the store thought she would identify them. They killed her.Police in Gisagara district are holding the two suspects. The suspects were arrested in Gikonko cell, Gikonko sector on Wednesday. Muhoza, 11, a pupil of Gikonko Primary School, was returning home from school at about 1pm. Police preliminary investigations indicate that she found the suspects stealing beans at her grandmother’s house. The suspects, who confessed to the crime, said they killed Muhoza "to erase the only evidence that would have linked them to the theft.”They were identified by area residents, who saw blood stains on their shirts as they changed clothes, Police said. Area residents identified the suspects, who are in custody at Gikonko Police Station, as loiterers and drug addicts. Southern Region Police Spokesman Herbert Gashagaza said they will be charged with murder. Supt. Gashagaza urged the community to join the campaign against drug abuse, which he said is the major cause of other crimes."These drugs such as marijuana and illicit brew play a bigger role in major crimes reported,” he said.He urged residents to share information with Police and other security agencies and to engage and speed up ‘Neighbourhood Watch’ approach.
