Eight held over theft

The Police in Gisozi sector, Gasabo district, are holding eight men suspected of stealing property in Kigali.The suspects were arrested in security operations in the last three days. They include burglars and those who helped in the buying and selling of the stolen items.Police also recovered assorted items, including laptops, desktops, mobile phones, stabilisers, car radios and flat screens, among others, which had been stolen.One of the suspects admitted his taking part in burglary."We work as a team and mainly we break locks after identifying items to steal. We sell the items in Nyabugogo and Gakinjiro markets,” he said.The 27-year-old was arrested Wednesday in Kacyiru, a Kigali suburb. He also said it is not the first time that Police had arrested him for similar crime."I’m ready to tell police whoever we deal with and I really apologise for what I have been doing,” the suspect said.Police Spokesperson Supt. Theos Badege warned against theft and acts that undermine security, saying his institution has come up with effective measures to crackdown on criminals.
