APR are on the brink of retaining their volleyball national league title after Sunday’s gripping performance. The reigning champions bullied bitter rivals Kigali Volleyball Club with yet another blistering 3-1 performance to open their second round campaign on a high.

And with just three phases to wrap up the Coca-cola championship, APR who are 60 points clear at the top of table only need a top three performance to hang on to the title.

Two weeks ago, APR held onto the Tournoi international des Disparus title for a fourth time in a row but head coach Jean Luc Ndayikengurukiye recently said that there is still more to come from the army side.

"For now, we are focused on the league. It’s very important to us and we shall do everything in our means to retain the title,” a focused Ndayikengurukiye commented.

In addition to the league, the 32-year-old ex-APR and national team captain also has his eyes on the prestigious Coupe du Rwanda as well as the Carre’d’AS title.

Last year, APR claimed the Carre’d’AS title only to fall to arch-rivals Rwanda National University (UNR) in Coupe du Rwanda and have made this competition their second top priority after the league.

On the international scene, APR is also lined up for this year’s Cup winners’ Cup that merges Africa’s top volleyball clubs. This tournament is scheduled for December.
