Students remember Genocide victims

NYAMASHEKE — Students of Ntendezi school of Agriculture and Agronomy in Ruharambuga sector, have paid tribute to the 1994 genocide victims. The students over the weekend visited Ruharambuga Genocide memorial site.

At the same event organized by the Association of genocide Survivor Students (AERG) the students marched from the school to the memorial site singing anti-genocide songs.

Addressing his fellow students, the President of AERG, Theogene Basabose, a genocide survivor from the same sector said that Ruharambuga site contains over 1,000 genocide victims who were collected from Kirimbi, Sarabwe, Kabeho cells.

He urged students and those who were present to always fight against genocide ideology, racial divisionism and any other crime in schools.

"Each and every individual who is here knows very well that genocide ideology, ethnic divisionism are among the things that caused the 1994 genocide, so it’s high time for us as students and all residents to make it our responsibility and concern to always fight against these crimes,” Basabose said.

He also encouraged students and all residents to always support genocide survivors who are vulnerable especially survivor families headed by children and widows.

David Nduwimana, the Director of Studies at the school called the students to promote unity and reconciliation among themselves and in their respective residential areas.
He also told the students to always report any student and teacher who harbor genocide ideology.
