Defence officials conclude retreat

GICUMBI — Ministry of Defense officials met over the weekend in a retreat in Byumba Sector, to discuss, among many other issues, the defence draft policy.

The officials who included Service Chiefs (Army and Air Force), Division Commanders, Joint staff (JS), Heads of Department at Rwanda Defence Forces (RDF) headquarters and Commanders of military training institutions discussed the policy on production and industrial economic ventures, aimed at generating income.

They also discussed strategies for countering negative genocidal forces who still pose a threat to Rwanda’s sovereignty.

Other issued discussed included the preparation for internal and external non-military threats such as diseases like Ebola and Avian Flu among others.

Also in attendance was Presidential advisor on Defense and security, Brig. General Jean-Bosco Kazura. The meeting was presided over by the Chief of General Staff Gen. James Kabarebe. The two day retreat was held at Hotel Urumuli over the weekend.
