The Egyptian community in Rwanda and friends of Egypt, Friday converged at the Egyptian embassy in Kigali to mark two years since the uprising that ousted President Hosni Mubarak. George Nkosinati Twala, South African High Commissioner to Rwanda and China`s Shu Zhan were among other ambassadors who attended the event.In his speech, the Egyptian Ambassador Khaled Abdel Rahman, said that the celebration means a lot not only to Egyptians but Africans in general. "The youth spearheaded this revolution and their demands were clear, focused on political change to spur development of their country as well as attaining their democratic rights,” he noted. He said that the revolution has caused change in the country’s direction for the better as well as creating diplomatic ties with various countries, especially in the Nile Basin and beyond. The Ambassador commended the relations his country enjoys with Rwanda saying it has a lot to tell in the social and economic development of both countries. "We are looking forward in partnering and supporting to work together with the government of Rwanda in various programmes including education, agriculture and technical skills development,” he said. Rahman noted that the change in the country has brought development and that it is evident that the youth, women and the general public are equally playing a part or role in the direction of the country`s affairs. He appreciated the presence of various government officials as well as those in private organsations as well as religious leaders including the mufti Rwanda, Sheikh Abdul Karim Gahutu. The Acting Director General for Bilateral and Multilateral Cooperation in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, James Ngoga, said that Rwanda and Egypt enjoyed good relations. "We are committed to working together in further promoting our relations with other countries,” Ngoga said.
