RWAMAGANA—The Institute Supérieur d’ Agriculture et d’ Elevage (I.S.A.E), is set to strengthen scientific education concerning agriculture and animal husbandry.
This was revealed by the rector of the institute, Prof. Kalisa Mbanda during a meeting with DELEVA hotel in Rwamagana on September 7, after a two-day seminar.
"The main aim of the seminar was to evaluate programs being taught at I.S.A.E so that we look at how we can strengthen our education system and how we can produce competent agricultural technicians and agricultural engineers during the course of our education,” Mbanda said.
"The seminar was instrumental in bringing input to the preparation of national programs that are in line with international level and norms similar to those schools in developed countries.”
One of the participants, Callixte Karege, a visiting lecturer at I.S.A.E through the Belgian-run IMIDA development agency said the meeting was successful in overcoming many gaps still common in education system of developing nations.
The seminar was attended by expatriates from agricultural and veterinary schools in Uganda, Burundi, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Zimbabwe, Senegal, India, France and Belgium, to share experiences and exchange knowledge.
ISAE is the only higher-education institute of agriculture and animal husbandry in the country.
The institute has been instrumental in training agricultural and veterinary technicians in advanced diploma courses, since 1989 when it started.
In 2007 it began degree courses training agricultural engineers and veterinary doctors. It enrolls 1500 students and 70 permanent lecturers.
