The Rwandan community working in western Sudan’s war torn region of Darfur have launched a showroom aimed at promoting investment and tourism potentials of their homeland.Apart from some civilian personnel, there are over 3,000 Rwandan peacekeepers serving under the AU-UN Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID), in Darfur.Among others, the showroom will host a daily cultural display programme, where people within UNAMID will be informed and exposed to Rwanda’s development, culture and historical background.A statement from the Rwandan contingent in Darfur, points out that the development comes following recommendations made during last month’s General Assembly of the Rwandan Community in Darfur. The Rwanda Showroom was officially launched on January 19, by UNAMID Force Commander Lt. Gen. Patrick Nyamvumba. It will showcase a variety of art crafts, traditional clothes and other items made in Rwanda.Gen. Nyamvumba advised that due to the expected high number of UNAMID visitors – civilians, police and military – the organisers should ensure that there is always enough stock of the items that are required.
