NGO donates cows to Gitovu residents

NORTHERN PROVINCE BURERA — A Netherlands Non Government Organisation (NGO) called Foundation Koornazaayer has donated 40 heifers to residents of Gitovu sector in Burera district. The cows were donated through a local organisation called Nord Sud Rwanda.

BURERA — A Netherlands Non Government Organisation (NGO) called Foundation Koornazaayer has donated 40 heifers to residents of Gitovu sector in Burera district. The cows were donated through a local organisation called Nord Sud Rwanda.

Residents received the cows on a loan basis where payments of frw300, 000 for each cow shall be effected over the next two years.

Speaking during the function, the District Mayor Aime Bosenibamwe called upon the area residents to be quick in accomplishing their goals in order to fight poverty.

Gitovu sector was identified as one of the poorest sector in the district and was being set out as a Vision 2020 exemplary sector.

Bosenibamwe asked the Executive Secretaries from the cell, midugudu and the sector to begin evaluating the residents’ performance contracts for each house and to asses their progressive in development.

"You should have your own vision and have purpose driven mission of believing that poverty can be fought,” Bosenibamwe said.

Payments for those who received the cows shall be made towards the district saving fund which will later be collected. More cows shall be bought and given to other beneficiaries.

Everest Ntamahungu, the in charge of the ‘one family one cow’ project, from the Ministry of Agriculture asked the area residents to utilise cows.

Foundation Koornazaar in collaboration with Nord Sud Rwanda completed the pledge of donating 90 cows. They also earlier on this year donated 50 heifers.
