Jean Baptist Kayiranga has resigned as head coach of Primus League leaders SC Kiyovu citing ‘unending financial problems’ that have shaken the club this season.Kayiranga tendered in his resignation letter Thursday evening after taking the club through what turned out to be his final training drills at Mumena stadium in the afternoon. "I have resigned with immediate effect and the club management is aware. There are so many reasons that led to my resignation but the major issue is the financial constraints that have hindered the performance of the team this season,” he told Saturday Sport on Friday."When they renewed my contract last year, they promised to solve these issues but until now, nothing has been done. I can’t continue working in this situation,” added the former Rayon Sport coach, who has been at Kiyovu for close to two years. When contacted, club Chairman Norbet Sendege also confirmed the news. He said, "Kayiranga tendered in his resignation on Thursday evening. He stated out different issues including financial constraints as well as personal issues as part of his resignation.”Kiyovu started the season strongly but midway the first round, things changed due to unpaid salaries for players and coaches. However, despite their problems, Kiyovu went on to finish the first round on top of the table standings with 26 points, after winning eight, drawing two and losing three matches. The ‘Green Baggies’ have not won the league since 1993.
