Paris Saint-Germain coach Christophe Galtier was taken into police custody on Friday, June 30 over allegations surrounding discrimination during his time in charge of Nice, media reports indicate.

This comes as a big blow for the French manager who led PSG to the Ligue 1 title in the 2022-23 season.

Galtier is expected to be sacked by PSG soon, with Luis Enrique being lined up as the successor, while the club is already negotiating transfer deals for the likes of Marco Asensio and Milan Skrinar.

According to French television channel RMC Sport, Galtier and his son John Valovic-Galtier were taken into police custody at 8:45 am on Friday as part of an investigation into alleged discrimination at Nice.

Galtier took over as the manager of PSG in July 2022, having succeeded Mauricio Pochettino at the helm. He came with a successful CV on his account having led Lille to Ligue 1 title in 2020-21 while his Nice side finished runners-up in the Coupe de France before he made his switch to PSG.

The pair of father and son was summoned by the investigating authority for accusations of racism in the top tier of the French capital. According to French jurisdictions, detainers cannot be kept in custody for more than 24 hours which could see the PSG coach either get arrested or get released.

The matter could be brought into the courts in the next few hours as the police try to tighten their grip against the 56-year-old.

As per French newspaper L'Equipe's claim the pair are facing accusations of racism from ex-Nice Sporting Director Julien Fournier. It is also understood that Galtier has denied all accusations against him and has filed a countercase against the ex-Nice Sporting Director.
