Sharon M. OmurungiWOMEN have made it a habit to "steal” from the men’s wardrobe. From the shirts, suspenders, blazers to trousers! And it seems all fun to be able to wear something masculine but with a feminine touch. Two years ago, the women "stole” an accessory from the men- the boyfriend watches. Some women have dropped the small feminine watches for the boyfriend ones. The men didn’t understand this trend. It was a common to hear a man ask a question like, "that watch is cute, you stole it from your boyfriend?” or say, "That is a man’s watch because it is big on you.”The good news is that they are still trending. And most of the major designer labels have them. The boyfriend watches are big, or call them oversized. If you don’t find them in the women’s jewellery shop, just head to the men’s.Your choice You can go for the metallic ones in the traditional silver and gold. Or go for the ones with the plastic band which come in different colours. If you don’t want to lose the feminine side of you, you can choose the bold colours. These watches can fit any attire but it also depends on how you accesorise everything in the end. Like any other accessory, you need to choose the right watch for the right attire. The watch should not be tightly fitting because it is "your boyfriend’s”; it should loosely fit.CostIn the jewellery and textile shops in town, the boyfriend watches will cost you between Rwf20,000- Rwf35,000. Or it will depend on the type of brand that you are buying. A designer boyfriend watch could cost you more than that amount.
