THE Management of The New Times yesterday in Kigali met with over 50 newspaper vendors operating in various locations across the city.The meeting was organized to discuss how to improve the working relationship as the vendors play a key role in getting The New Times products to the market.The paper vendors, grouped under two cooperatives made several suggestions in line with streamlining the circulation of the newspapers.Thadée Musabyimana, one of the vendors who operates from Nyabugogo bus park area, said that he would like many more copies and he would want to get the early enough. "Early morning passengers heading to Burundi, Uganda and Tanzania always want to depart with a copy of The New Times to read while travelling,” Musabyimana said.Vincent Gasana, who has been vending The New Times for the last 15 years requested, "We want The New Times Publication to help us learn English; it can help us market the news content and thus attracting more readers.”Collin Haba, the Managing Director of The New Times Publications urged the vendors aged between 18 and 35 years, to work hard for an effective circulation explaining that it they too will benefit financially once they work hard.It was agreed that effective January 21, the venders will be get extra commission for each copy they sell. The New Times publications publishes an English daily and a Kinyarwanda weekly called Izuba Rirashe.To ease the flow, the parties agreed that the executive committee of the vendors’ cooperatives will receive the news papers and then distribute to the individual vendor.Haba promised that the company will meet its vendors annually during which the best performing vendors will be recognised."We wish all the best to The New Times because no other paper has organised such a get together to listen to our suggestions,” Gasana, another vendor said.
