Amavubi Stars skipper Olivier Karekezi is calling for better team preparations ahead of the 2010 World cup/Nations’ Cup qualifiers.
The first African qualifying matches for the 2010 World Cup will take place in October.

Ten teams will meet Oct. 13 in the first leg of home-and-away knockout matches. The return legs are scheduled for Nov. 17.

Good news for Rwanda is that the Amavubi Stars will not be among the teams that play on the aforementioned days.

Countries that will play in the qualifier preliminaries include Seychelles vs. Djibouti; Sierra Leone vs. Guinea-Bissau; Central African Republic vs. Sao Tome and Principe; Somalia vs. Swaziland; and Madagascar vs. Comoros.

Nonetheless, Swedish based midfielder cum striker believes that only early and better preparations will help Rwanda’s cause.

"It’s good we won today [against Liberia] but the position we are in, isn’t the best I would go for if you asked me, I feel we should have done better [in the first matches],” Karekezi admitted moments after Saturday’s 4-0 drabbing of Liberia on Saturday.

He however, noted that if Rwanda is going to have a chance to do better in the forthcoming 2010 World Cup and CAN qualifiers, a lot has be done as far as preparing the team adequately is concerned.

"The team needs improved preparations. Ferwafa should organize more friendly matches as part of the preparation.

” The inspirational skipper further enhanced his credentials as ‘leading by example’ with a late fourth goal for the Wasps.

The gifted 25-year old has finished as Amavubi’s top scorer with three goals to his name from five matches of a rather disappointing campaign. He missed the 2-1 defeat in the return leg against Cameroon.

Michael Nees’s side has not had ample preparations in the run up to all the six qualifiers something that has paid off the way it has done.Six points from six matches and second from bottom, Karekezi sees that as a step in the right direction but thinks that he and his mates can achieve a lot better than that in the next qualifying campaign.
Bokota praise.

The Helsingborg star said was satisfied with the team’s general performance on the day but picked out striker Kamana Bokota Labama for special praise.

He said, "The players who finished the game were all good and experienced, players like Bokota, I never knew him before but he has proved to be such an important member of the group in a short time.”

The Rayon Sports man  made an instant impact on his debut international career with his adopted country. 

After taking the national league by storm, scoring 14 times [league top scorer] in ten outings, the Congolese born forward made a dream start to his Amavubi career with a clinical finish for the team’s first of their 4-0 win against Liberia.

Not only did he open the floodlights, he played a big part in the second for Saidi Abedi and Jeannot Witakenge’s third.

Rwanda and Senegal were the biggest winners on Saturday across the continent.

While Amavubi were stinging the Lone Stars in Kigali, The Teranga Lions mauled over The Stallions of Burkina Faso 5-1 in Dakar.
