Burundi’s VITAL’O FC head coach Gilbert Yaoundé Kanyankore is confident about his team’s chances against APR FC in the CAF Champions League. The two teams face off in the preliminary round of the this year’s competition, with 13-time Rwandan league champions APR hosting the first leg on the weekend of February 15-17 in Kigali and the second leg a fortnight later in Bujumbura."Rwanda and Burundi are so closely connected” which means both teams know each other so well, and both play almost the same type of football. It is going to be a very interesting tie,” the former Rayon Sport coach was quoted in the Burundian press as saying. He added, "It is always good for us to draw a team from this region, and I hope we will do well against APR. We are leaving nothing to chances in our preparation for this tie, I know it will be difficult for us especially in the first leg, but we will go to Kigali to win.” Besides Rayon, Kanyankore has also coached other teams in Rwanda, including; Les Citadins (AS Kigali) and the senior national team."I know Rwandan football too well and expect a tough match. APR is a top team in this region, but that does not mean we can’t beat them at their own ground. We’re Vital’O and we must go to Kigali with the right mentality,” the former Amavubi Stars coach stated. The winner between the two teams will meet the winner between Rangers of Nigeria and SC Do Principe of Sao Tome and Principe.Last year, APR managed to reach the second round where they lost to Tunisia’s Etoile du Sahel 3-2 on goal aggregates. In the first round, APR beat Kenya’s Tusker 1- 0 on aggregate.
