The three Rwandan students arrested in India last week for allegedly "eve-teasing” (using vulgar words against) an Indian lady, were released on bail late Saturday evening.Rwanda’s High Commissioner to India, Williams Nkurunziza, told The New Times that: "The three students were released around 20h20 on a total bail of about US$1,200.”"They are expected to appear in court on January, 17, 2013, to answer charges of "eve-teasing” or the use of vulgar language against a lady.” The students argue that claims against them by Ms Ashish Sharma, 35, a single mother, are not truthful.The New Times was not able to reach the trio’s legal representative for comment by press time, but the High Commissioner said that a "local lawyer retained by the students to represent them is optimistic of a positive outcome from the trial.”The three university students committed the alleged offence in Jalandhar in the northwest Indian state of Punjab. The trio reportedly met Sharma as she walked on the street at around 4pm and asked her for directions to a location they were looking for but were arrested half an hour later by Police officers.The trio’s case comes at a time when emotions are running high in India following the tragic death of an Indian girl, who was a victim of a brutal gang rape.
