Varsity lecturer found dead in Kigali

The body of a lecturer at the National University of Rwanda (NUR), who went missing about a week ago, was on Thursday afternoon found in Kanyinya sector, Nyarugenge district, Police have said.

The body of a lecturer at the National University of Rwanda (NUR), who went missing about a week ago, was on Thursday afternoon found in Kanyinya sector, Nyarugenge district, Police have said.Dr Radjabu Mbukani was a member of the NUR’s Faculty of Medicine, and a doctor at the University Teaching Hospital of Kigali (CHUK).He went missing on December 29, 2012, a statement on the university website reads.By press time, the circumstances surrounding his death were still not clear but Police said investigations were underway.Superintendent Theos Badege, the Police Spokesperson, said the don’s body was found ‘hanging in a tree’.But he insisted it is still too early to draw conclusions on whether he committed suicide or was murdered.Results of the autopsy and Police investigations will reveal the real cause of the death, Supt Badege added.The body was taken to CHUK for post mortem.By the time we went to press, Police had apprehended one individual in connection with the death.Professor Manasse Mbonye, NUR Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs, paid tribute to a ‘dedicated’ lecturer."The University has lost one of its best lecturers,” Mbonye told The New Times in a phone interview.Prof Mbonye, who spoke in a low, shaky and sad voice, said the university was ‘shocked, devastated and grasped into extreme grief” over the loss."[Mbukani] was a skilled, passionate and hardworking lecturer,” he stated. "He was one of our best”.Dr.  Mbukani was born in 1975 in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).He was a Gynaecologist at CHUK and a PhD student at Gothenburg University in Sweden, according to a post on NUR website.
