PRESIDENT Paul Kagame is expected to officially deliver the second ever State of the Nation Address today.The 2010 constitutional amendment, included a provision for the Head of State to deliver a State of the Nation address each year. 

1. President Kagame delivered the maiden State of the Nation address to Parliament last year in February.

The function is attended by government officials, legislators, members of the diplomatic corps, representatives of the civil society and the private sector.

In his first State of the Nation address, President Kagame highlighted the country’s achievements since 1994.He cited bad leadership, ethnic divisions, poverty and social injustices, as some of the issues the country had to overcome.During last year's address, the Head of State observed that after the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, the country started from scratch, rebuilding almost everything, to come up with a "new Rwanda” that every Rwandan desired.

As one of the world’s fastest growing economies, Rwanda has made tremendous progress this year, with the key indicators expected to feature in today's address in addition to the focus for the upcoming year.

The State of the Nation address is scheduled to start at 3 p.m.
