Amavubi Stars defender Hamad Ndikumana a.k.a Katauti is wanted for club duty by his Cyprus premier league club Omonio it has emerged.

Ferwafa Chief Executive Officer, Jules Kalisa told Times Sport yesterday that Omonio faxed the local football body requesting the defender to return for club duty in Cyprus.

"It is true Ndikumana is wanted by his club but that can’t be possible at this time with the 2010 World/Africa Cup qualifiers underway.

"I talked to Omonio manager Nedim Dudic about Katauti’s release and everything has been settled,” Kalisa said.

Kalisa further added that according to Fifa rules in the ongoing qualifiers, a player is allowed to return to his club at the end of the on-going qualifiers.

"Ndikumana will return back for his club after Rwanda’s second leg fixture away to Morocco on June 21,” Kalisa confirmed.

The former Rayon Sports ace who has only returned to the national team set up after two years in self-imposed exile has played the full 90 minutes in Rwanda’s last two qualifiers against Mauritania and Ethiopia.

The veteran defender had last played for the national team during the fateful 1-0 home loss to Angola in the 2006 world cup qualifications, a game in which he was alleged to have been bribed to fix by the Angolans. No evidence has ever been brought to light to prove this.

The 30-year-old defender has played his part in Rwanda’s impressive start to the current campaign that includes two back-to-back wins over Mauritania (3-0) and Ethiopia (2-1).

He was of the key players who helped Rwanda reach her maiden Africa Nations’ Cup in 2004 in Tunisia and his experience will key to Rwanda’s campaign to reach the 2010 tournament in Angola.
