She has written poems, comedy scripts and Kinyrwanda text books. Now the multitalented Lillian Musekweya is spreading her wings to screenwriting. The Sunday Times’s Grace Mugoya spoke to her. Excerpts below: What inspires you? I am inspired by everyday social problems. How does your work contribute to the development of this society? Through my movies, I think people are able to learn how they can avoid the problems I address. Which problems have you recently written films about? I have written about the need for reconciliation and how the population can fight HIV/Aids. What is the latest movie you have worked on? It is titled Igihirahiro mu Rukundo. It is currently in the works. What is your take on the movie industry here? We are trying as much as possible, although we have a long way to go. What are your future plans? I actually want to start a cinema centre where I can even teach other people. What have you gained from writing? In addition to making friends, I learn new things from different people every other day What makes you stand out? I believe that being myself or avoiding pretence makes me different from many people.
