About 70 pastors from various religious denominations met yesterday to assess their role in building peace and stability.During the meeting that took place in Kicukiro district, the leaders shared views and devised common mechanisms through which they can play a positive role in fostering law-abiding citizens who are able and willing to contribute to the development of their country. Pastor Beatrice Karigwire, who represented Patmos Healing Ministries, said that it was important for religious leaders to leverage their strength and influence and guide the population into becoming responsible citizens."When we preach the love Jesus Christ has for this world and the people in it, it’s equally important to inform followers about the importance of forgiving and reconciling with others the same way Jesus is ready to forgive those who repent,” Karigwire said.She noted that asking for forgiveness and accepting to forgive is key to living in harmony with others, adding that it enables parties to amicably solve issues that might have otherwise resulted in conflicts.  Pastor Joseph Mugabo, of the Worship Pentecost Church in Remera, said that churches and believers have to work together in ensuring that the population acknowledges the need to build peaceful communities.
