Rwanda Development Board and the Kigali City Council have disclosed plans to set up entertainment zones around town to facilitate people interested in investing into the sector, an initiative they say will attract tourists.  Addressing a news conference on Christmas eve, the head of tourism and conservation at RDB, Rica Rwigamba said the initiative is part of the long term plan of boosting entertainment in Rwanda. "Part of the major entertainment facilities that constitute amusement parks have been designated at the Kimicanga area which is part of the Central Business District…we are also planning a cultural village which will be at Rebero in Kicukiro District,” Rwigamba said. The Kigali City Sub-Area Master Plans indicates that Rebero - which is one of the hills that surround Kigali City - was reserved for a cultural village, hotels and conferences and retirement homes.With the facilities in place, most people from the region are expected to flock Kigali for entertainment, the officials said. The Kigali Central Business District comprises of Muhima, Nyarugenge and Kimicanga areas which represent the existing centre of the city and its precincts.According to the Kigali City Conceptual Master plan, the ‘New Entertainment District’ will be about 20 hectares located adjacent to the verdant wetland area at the entry point to the CBD in Kimihurura. It is also envisaged to be the arts and cultural centre of the City.Situated within expansive parks and greenways, this district will feature a world class performing arts centre and entertainment complex. It will be surrounded by relaxing outdoor spaces dotted with cafés, restaurants, art galleries, an amphitheatre, contemporary art displays, pubs and boutiques, making it a unique and attractive destination for locals as well as visitors.Meanwhile, at the same news conference, the mayor of the City of Kigali, Fidele Ndayisaba, cautioned the public about reckless consumption of alcohol saying that the public is free to enjoy and have as much fun as possible but in a responsible way. He asked families and people who may hold house parties during this festive season not to make much noise that may interrupt the tranquility of their neighbours.
