Michael Nees is ready to negotiate a new contract deal with the football federation after helping Rwanda finish in third spot of the group five in the CAN 2008 Ghana qualifiers.
After the Saturday’s 4-0 drabbing of Liberia at Amahoro stadium, the Amavubi Stars head coach, said, "My contract ends this month but I would prefer to negotiate a new deal if possible.”
"The team which deserves respect because it has worked through all sorts of criticism due to the bad results in the opening matches, may be people should not look at the negative side, they should also look at the positive side,” Nees said on Saturday.
The Germany born coach, much-criticized for his man-management weaknesses, noted that the players deserve some respect after Saturday’s performance and result, which meant that Rwanda finished in third spot with six points, two ahead of Liberia.
"They [players] have shown true character, teamwork and understanding and I feel that once I negotiate a new contract with the responsible parties, I will lead this team to great heights.”
Nees insists that Rwanda has higher chances of qualifying for CAN Angola2010 if the current team spirit and cooperation is maintained.”
His contract ends with this month but the national football governing body, Ferwafa is silent about the issue.
The federation Chief Executive Officer Jules Kalisa said, when on Saturday that they have not yet held any discussion about Nees’s contract.
"We have not discussed anything about his contract. Details about his contract will only be revealed after a meeting with the federation executive committee.”
The German born international was appointed as the Amavubi coach last August and he was obliged to lead the national team to the next year’s Nations’ Cup finals.
However, four loses and two wins from six qualifying matches left Rwanda could only finish third in group five led by Cameroon with Equatorial Guinea second.
