The pair of Flavier Ndamukunda and Jean Luc Mbonyuwontuma won this year’s Karongi Beach Volleyball championship that concluded on Sunday. The one day tournament, organised by Beach Volleyball Friends Forum and Karongi District with an aim of fighting HIV/ Aids among the youth, saw the duo mauling Burundian pair of Ivan Dukundane and Brian Mugabowingabo 2-0 (21-17,21-14). To make it to the finals the triumphant pair had seen off Ignace Kabandana & Eric Nsabimana Machine 2-0 (15-8, 15-8), while Ivan Dukundane and Brian Mugabowingabo had beaten Christian Shingiro and Daniel Uwimana with the same margin in the semi-finals. In the women’s category, Africa Junior champion Charlotte Nzayisenga, pairing with Denise Mutatsimpundu, won the tourney after beating Yvette Gihozo and Angelique Uwimbabazi 2-0 (21-16, 21-13). Apart from trophies, the winners pocketed Rfw60,000, while runners-up pocketed Rfw50,000.The third placed pairs walked away with Rfw40,000, while the fourth finishing pairs in both categories, received Rfw30,000.
