Cashier shot dead in SACCO robbery

NYAMAGABE – A cashier at Musange Savings and Credit Cooperative (SACCO), Nyamagabe district, has been shot dead by suspected armed robbers, Police said.The victim was identified as Emmanuel Uzabumwana. He was 24. He was shot dead on Thursday night.According to police, armed robbers ambushed the victim as he left his job shortly after 10pm on Thursday and took him back to the SACCO offices. They later forced him to open for them and shot him dead on the spot, according to preliminary investigations.His body was found the next morning lying in a pool of blood under a table at the offices.A stray bullet fired by the assailants also injured a local resident whose identity was not readily available by press time.The robbers, who were armed with an AK47 sub-machine gun, took with them over Rwf800,000. They had also tried to break the safe-deposit box, but failed, Police sources told The New Times. The box was fired on several times, Supt Hubert Gashagaza, police spokesperson in the southern region, said.By press time, four people, including a security guard employed at the SACCO offices, had been detained in relation with the incident, Gashagaza confirmed.Investigations into the murder are still ongoing, Police said.
