Qatar Airways donates to orphans

QATAR Airways, yesterday, donated school bags to orphans at Gisimba Memorial Centre in Nyamirambo, Kigali.The Qatar Airways Commercial manager in Rwanda, Ben Mutia, said the donation was a Christmas gift, and part of their resolve to promote education and health.

QATAR Airways, yesterday, donated school bags to orphans at Gisimba Memorial Centre in Nyamirambo, Kigali.The Qatar Airways Commercial manager in Rwanda, Ben Mutia, said the donation was a Christmas gift, and part of their resolve to promote education and health."Whatever we do we have to be responsive to the needs of society,’’ he said.He encouraged the orphans to strive to excel academically to have a bright future."You have to work hard in your studies…it is the only guarantee of your good future,’’ Mutia told the orphans.Gisimba Memorial Centre is home to 128 orphans, mostly primary and secondary school pupils sponsored by the government and different donors.The pupils stay in the orphanage during holidays.The children are assisted to get accommodation and other care after they have joined university.The orphanage’s Legal Representative Damas Gisimba Mutezintare, appreciated Qatar Airways contribution to the education of the orphans.He said the orphanage currently faces inadequacy of school materials and fees to satisfy all the orphans, and said they have become expensive."We are also caring for other 105 orphans living in families and who really need school fees and materials, but donors reach only those who are in this orphanage,’’ he said.Mutia said the airline wants to build close relationships with Gisimba Memorial Centre.  Qatar Airways has its headquarters in Doha, Qatar and opened flights to Kigali in March, 2012.
