Rwanda is set to host the 12th African Leasing Association (Afrolease) Convention next week. The forum will educate Rwandans, the private sector, law makers and other stakeholders on the developmental and beneficial aspects of leasing.

The 4-day forum will bring together African leasing providers to discuss challenges in the sector and also train stakeholders how to profit from leasing.

Afrolease will also consider Rwanda’s inclusion in the continental body, which comprises of national leasing associations to build about development of the leasing industry.

The convention co-hosted by IFC, National Bank of Rwanda and Commercial Bank of Rwanda is scheduled take place between the 16th and the 19th of June, at the Kigali Serena Hotel.

Brian Kirungi, the Legal Specialist of the Rwanda Competitiveness and Enterprise Development Project Leasing Development Programme (CEDP) said "the event is important to Rwanda and the East African region.”

CEDP is an initiative within the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank to promote the development of leasing in Rwanda.

He is optimistic that the meet will open up opportunities for investors both within and outside Rwanda, and increase the profile of leasing in Rwanda, an industry that is only two years old.

Top leasing experts from within and outside Africa will also deliberate on the global trends and opportunities for leasing in emerging markets.

He added that, "The forum will include training of key players in the industry on how to lease and how to profit from it. The general public, beneficiaries from leasing will share their experiences, highlighting how profitable leasing maybe be.”

Upon the background, Robert Mukasa, the leasing officer in Rwanda Development Bank, said the forum has come at the right time when the leasing industry is steadily growing.

"But with the vast experience of the Afrolease delegates, the public will identify this as an alternative means of financing developmental projects,” he added.

Mukasa also said, "The forum will instill unite into the national leasing association that is yet to get experience, and will also attract new players into the industry.”
