Police in Nyanza District are holding a 28-year old man for allegedly killing his cousin brother.The suspect, names withheld, is a resident of Ntyazo sector, Kagunga cell is accused of killing Jean Claude Harindintwari, 43, using a machete.Police are yet to ascertain the cause of the murder. The incident took place on December 18 at about 6:30 pm.Apparently, the duo picked a quarrel in a bar in the nearby trading centre, where they were sharing a drink.Police said preliminary investigations show that the suspect left the deceased in the bar and instead ambushed him on his way back home killing him instantly.The suspect is currently held at Ntyazo Police Post.The suspect was also a wanted man for allegedly assaulting his wife. He is suspected to have been in the hiding in Ngoma District, police said.Supt. Hubert Gashagaza, the Southern Region Police Spokesperson said several measures have been initiated to fight and prevent family conflicts such as sensitisation campaigns through community policing."We are also fighting drug abuse such as illicit brew like kanyanga and cannabis which, in most cases, are blamed for most domestic related crimes,” noted Gashagaza.
