Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni has said that although westerners perceive Africans as very different people, the latter were connected.

"I am a Munyankore but I can hear Kinyarwanda without any translation. If you can hear another person’s language without translation, that means you have a special bond,” Museveni, who is in Kigali to attend today’s RPF Silver Jubilee, said.

He was speaking Wednesday during a dinner hosted in honour of him on the eve of the Rwandese Patriotic Front (RPF) 25th Anniversary celebrations.

"Even the small differences we have should not divide us but rather make us depend on each other economically,” said Museveni, also chairman of Uganda’s ruling National Resistance Movement.

In his speech, President Paul Kagame, who’s also RPF chairman, recognised President Museveni’s role in Rwanda’s liberation struggle.

Both men worked together during and after Uganda’s liberation struggle, and Museveni was in 2009 decorated for having supported RPF’s liberation struggle.

"President Museveni has been a legend and is indeed a senior member of the RPF. We owe it to our people to create socio-economic development and cannot afford to fail,” Kagame said.The RPF 25th anniversary main event is underway at the Amahoro stadium.

The party was formed, by mainly Rwandan refugees, in December 1987, in the Ugandan capital of Kampala.
