After a two years stint in Rwanda, Kenyan pianist and song writer, Kim Thuita, is heading to South Africa where he will perform Jazz, Blues and R&B next year. Rwandans will miss his music during the time he will be away. Thuita joined a group of artists called Across Borders to improve his music. He has passed on his piano playing skills to students at the School Of Music in Kiyovu and also taught them a thing or two on how to entertain people. His professional music career began over 20 years ago and he has performed in different parts of the world. Thuita, 49, has been performing in top hotels in Kigali like Kigali Serena Hotel, Top Tower, Des Mille Colline Hotel and many others. He has a soulful voice and his music leaves everyone who listens to him with a smile.Thuita said that when he started performing in Rwanda he was helped by a friend called Mutsari whose role in taking him places will always be appreciated. "Whenever I go for an event, I move with my equipment. In music, you need to communicate with the audience while singing in order to connect with them. If you do not communicate, it means you are wasting your time because regardless of whether they hear you, they can’t feel you,” Thuita said. He said that music is family calling because his father was a choir conductor and an organ player. He started music at a young age starting with Gospel and later Jazz. His elder brother, based in the United States, is a classical pianist and director, while his younger sister and niece, both based in Madrid, Spain, are Jazz and R&B singers respectively.Born and raised in Nairobi Kenya, Thuita is a pianist, singer and composer. And ever since he set foot in ‘The Land of a ‘Thousand Hills’ in 2010, he has been heavily apprewwwwciated.
