President Paul Kagame today laid the foundation stone at the proposed Liberation Museum in Mulindi Sector in Gicumbi District.

The event was part of a flurry of activity in the run-up to the ruling Rwanda Patriotic Front’s Silver Jubilee celebrations on Thursday, December 20.

At the ceremony, Kagame, also RPF chairman, paid tribute to Gicumbi residents for their support during the 1990-94 liberation struggle, saying their collaboration with the then rebels was significant in winning the war.

The museum will be constructed near a cave which served as the headquarters of the RPF movement which would topple the genocidal regime on July 4, 1994.

The RPF/A struggle was launched on October 1, 1990, with the objective of fighting the injustice and discrimination that had characterised Rwanda for decades.
