TEACHERS from all secondary schools in Musanze District have completed a three-day training in management and leadership. The training, hosted by Ecole des Sciences de Musanze, brought together 130 participants, including head teachers, school directors and accountants. It was sponsored by the Flemish Association for Development Cooperation and Technical Assistance (VVOB) in collaboration with the Ministry of Education. At the closure of the training, Musanze District Education Officer, Fidèle Nzigira, reminded the teachers that the quality of any school depends mainly on the quality of the head teacher. "In order for the education of our children to be effective, it also requires close collaboration between parents and school staff,” he said. He encouraged them to master the art of high-quality administration of secondary schools as well as proper management of property and finances. Participants resolved to further encourage peer to peer learning, saying that it is an active and practical method of empowering school leaders by learning from each other. "There must be a shift from lecturing to facilitating and from teaching to sharing of knowledge and experiences,” said Jean Claude Mbonimpa, the head teacher of the host school.
