AS part of the celebrations to mark three years since it launched its services in the country, the country’s second telecom giant –Tigo Rwanda is launching Blackberry services, a move that makes it the second operator to introduce this after MTN Rwanda. The Chief Executive Officer of Tigo Rwanda, Diego Camberos, said the launch of the services is a response to the telecom’s recent move to diversify its services to offer subscribers choice."Rwandans now have no excuse not to join Tigo,” he said, during the launch of the services in Kigali on Thursday.Tigo has close to about 1.6 million subscribers while MTN has close to 2.9 million. According to Cameros, this definitely steps up competition in the market."We took long to introduce it because we were looking at what is really needed by the business people in the market,” said Pacifique Kabanda, Tigo Rwanda’s corporate sales manager. He added that the services would be very affordable to their clients at RWf4,000 a week and Rwf12000 a month."Now from a weekly Blackberry plan to an 18-month one, one can have unlimited access to browsing and use Blackberry applications which include social media among other Blackberry utilities. A client should just come and we will willingly help him on how to use his or her airtime on the phone,” said Kabanda.Rene Bascope, Head of Corporate and post-paid services at the telecom said: "Before, our subscribers had fewer options but now they have the freedom to choose. From today, everybody will be able to enjoy unlimited Blackberry services with Tigo on their own terms.”
