It is the holiday season and Christmas is fast approaching. Walking through town last week, there was an echo of Christmas through the decorations that some shops had already put up.Decorating during Christmas has been a tradition for many years and many families enjoy this activity and look forward to it year after year.

Different people do their Christmas decorations differently, but it all comes to one thing: the magic that comes with it by turning your home into a festival of joy.I have already seen many Christmas decorations filling the supermarket shelves that come in a wide array of prices, colours, sizes, styles, and brands, but all these will not help if you do not know what exactly it is that you want for your decorations. Christmas tree When I was growing up, my mother used to get us fresh Christmas tree, but those days are long gone. Rarely do we find fresh Christmas tree, so we have made do with plastic trees, which serve the purpose. The magic of your Christmas tree lies with the size of your home. A big home, looks good with a big Christmas tree, otherwise if you buy a small tree it will disappear somewhere. The same goes with a small house – a medium size tree is good, a much bigger tree will overshadow everything else that is in there.Christmas wreathMany people are still not conversant with the Christmas wreath. This can be hanged anywhere; whether it is hanged on the wall in the living room, on the doors or on top of a fireplace – if your home has one – it will still look good. A wreath can be bought readymade or you can do it yourself at home. Whichever way is easier for you, a Christmas wreath is a must-have in any Christmas decoration.Christmas lightingsBy now most of us know these lights are easily available in supermarkets. Christmas without the lights is a tad too boring. Decorating accessoriesThese accessories are a must-have if you want to liven up your Christmas tree, the balls, the stars, Santa Claus, the small gifts, snow balls and all. All these are what make a Christmas tree come to life. Without these, then there is no need of putting up a boring tree in your home.Table accessoriesYou can find Christmas-themed table accessories almost in any shop now. The table mats, matching candles, table cloths, table runners and even cutlery. Let your mood show in all your decoration this Christmas.Christmas musicMusic should be part of your décor. As I was growing up, we used to hear the sounds of Jim Reeves and Boney M at home. But now, almost every musician I know has sang at least one Christmas song, whether it is Celine Dion or Mariah Carey – whoever is pleasing to your ears and taste – make sure you have some background music to back up your décor during the entire season.
