Over 26 people were yesterday reportedly injured after a bus they were travelling in overturned along the Ntungamo-Mbarara road in Uganda, en-route to Kigali. No one died. The bus, registration number, UAG 108T, belonging to Jaguar Bus company, was heading from Kampala to Kigali through the Kagitumba border.Chris Omaka, the officer in charge of traffic in Ntungamo District, told The New Times that the bus overturned when the driver tried to brake to avoid ramming into road works machinery belonging to a construction company."It was a case of reckless driving because there were sign posts alerting motorists to slow down,” Omaka said.Three passengers reportedly sustained serious injuries and were admitted at Itojo hospital, while others suffered minor injuries which were treated at various clinics in Ntungamo town, according to police.Jaguar officials declined to comment. However, one of the company senior staff, speaking on condition of anonymity, told The New Times that only five people sustained minor injuries and that they were all treated and transported safely to Rwanda."It was not a major accident as claimed, and our monitoring system did not detect any case of over-speeding,” the official said, adding that the company had previously taken several measures to ensure the safety of their passengers.
