Rwamagana – The Governor of Eastern Province, Odette Uwamariya, has decried poor service delivery in the province.The Governor warned service providers that they risked facing sanctions if they don’t make changes to suit demands the Prime Minister to give good services.She said that owners of private establishments like hotels employ personnel based on favoritism, leading to poor service delivery."I must say that we are running short of time…both private and public sectors must style up. In the private sector particularly, they still employ people without experience or skills,” she said. Uwamariya further called for cleanliness and maintenance of hygiene mainly in the hospitality facilities and health centres."Some institutions like hospitals and hotels don’t only need to offer good services, but should maintain a high level of hygiene.  An inspection is under way.  Some of you may be sanctioned, unless you improve,” she warned.Francis Ngarambe, the owner of Blue Sky Hotel in Nyagatare town said that hotels have a challenge of getting employees with the requisite professional skills.He requested the government to give refresher courses and training for young people willing to work in hotels."We don’t have alternatives, but employ the unskilled because there are virtually no people to work in our hotels,” he said.One of the institutions put on the spot for offering extremely poor services in the province was the land centre based in Kayonza district.The Vice Mayor in charge of Social Affairs Ngoma district, Providence Kirenga, said that something must be done to improve services given to people by the land centre."The provincial land centre offers some of the poorest services…Imagine a situation where thousands wait for only one person to sign for land titles,” she said, adding that this may lead to the province scoring low in the nationwide evaluation on service delivery.Prime Minister Pierre Damien Habumuremyi recently launched a three-month campaign of service delivery enforcement for the public and private sector.
