APR lived up to their billing by winning this year’s ‘tournoi international des disparus’ after a straight sets victory (3-0) over Kigali Volleyball Club at Amahoro indoor stadium.

Although it was APR’s third consecutive title, it was only Jean-Luc Ndayikengurukiye’s first honor as APR coach and a big boast for the former APR and national team captain.

"The boys played outstanding volleyball and deserved to win. I also want to credit KVC for putting up a strong fight.

"And maybe the victory is good consolation for us after losing out in Kenya,” the 32-year-old said.

Last week, APR narrowly missed out on the East and Central Volleyball Championships that were held in Kenya after a 1-3 defeat against Kenya’s KCB.

Ndayikengurukiye was also excited about the victory and said that he is looking forward to guiding APR to more trophies.

"This is a good start for my coaching career and I hope to achieve more in the future” he said.

Meanwhile, Kenya Commercial Bank made light work of Uganda’s KCC 3-0 to remain undisputable in the ladies’ category. This year’s title was KCB’s fourth in a row.

On top of winners’ trophies, APR and KCB also walked away with $1000 courtesy of CSR (Caisse Sociale du Rwanda) and FRVB (Rwanda Volleyball Federation).

The two-day event that climaxed on Sunday attracted 21 clubs from Kenya, Uganda and hosts Rwanda.
