MenAPR 2-3 NURWomenAPR 3-0 RuhangoThe National University of Rwanda beat rivals APR by three sets to two to win the inaugural Malaria volleyball tournament final that lasted two hours on Sunday at Amahoro Indoor Stadium.The men final of the tournament, which was sponsored by Imbuto Foundation and with Rwanda Volleyball Federation, stated at 5pm and ended at 7:30pm.League champions APR started well and won the first set 25-22, but NUR came back strong and went on to win the second set 25-14, the army side took the third set 25-17.However, NUR, with the experience of Eric Nsabimana and Flavier Ndamukuda, won the fourth set 25-23, hence taking the match into a decider, which the university team won 15-12.NUR coach Fidele ‘Fidjo’ Nyirimana could not hide his delight after winning silverware in a season that they narrowly missed out on the both the league and Carre d’As to the army side."I am happy with this win, it will give us the motivation work harder in the league next season; it shows that we have a good side and I am happy with my players and staff”, the 37-year old told The Times Sport. APR coach Sammy Mutemi Mulinge said he was disappointed to lose in the final but was happy with the way his young players expressed themselves in the match.On the top of the trophy, NUR also walked away with a cash prize of Rwf500, 000, while APR took Rwf400, 000.The APR women excelled where their male counterparts failed with a comprehensive victory against Ruhango 3-0 (25-23, 25-17, 25-18).
