Editor,Can Mininfra (Ministry of Infrastructure) explain to the residents of Kabuga the story of the investor who wanted to put up an oil storage depot? Our lands were taken quickly, he paid for all sorts of things, we got jobs and started working, tractors etc; then one day the project stopped.We had been convinced to let go of our lands because they told us our landlocked country must have enough oil stocks – so it was a security issue. Now there are as many stories and rumours as the residents and leaders involved. What I heard recently was that government repossessed the land. If the government changed the plan can we get our land back? We still have the money. But, most importantly, what is the truth surrounding this project? In public-private dialogue truth is a cornerstone. As the President said there are many beneficiaries of business ventures, including neighbouring residents, who had jobs there and others who had started planning their Agaciro taking into consideration a major investment in their midst.George Kabuga(Reaction to the story, "Kagame backs private-public sector dialogue”, (The New Times, December 10)
