Hairstyles for the rainy season

IT is no secret that the weather has changed drastically. Heavy rains are experienced from Kigali to Kampala to Nairobi. Recently when I was talking to a colleague about the weather, the only thing that seemed to bother her was her hair.It is true that when the weather is harsh, it becomes a bit difficult and expensive to maintain a hairstyle especially for the fairer sex. However, as Kiki Kaliati writes, there are a number of hairstyles that suit the rainy season. DreadlocksNot all dreadlocks are permanent. Thanks to changing trends in hairstyles, some women have resorted to having temporary dreadlocks to suit this weather. Dreadlocks are easy to maintain. Even when you have been rained on, you will only need to shampoo and condition your hair and you will be good to go. Depending on what suits you, choose between having permanent dreadlocks or temporary ones. BraidsBraiding your hair during the rains saves your hair from breaking. Most ladies opt for braiding their hair. But there is also a problem here, overstaying with braided hair is more dangerous than letting your own hair be rained on. Overstaying with braids not only cuts the hair, but also reduces on the hair line. The longest one can stay with the braids should be at least a month, not more.CornrowsCornrows are also great during this season. Even though the longest period one can stay with cornrows is two weeks, more than two weeks they look like unkempt garden. Cornrows will save you from combing tangled hair every morning. When hair is rained on, it usually tangles because of being wet, but doing cornrows can save you from unpleasant combing in the morning.WeaveStrange as it might sound, having a weave is better than your own hair during the rainy season. Original human hair weave is better than the synthetic weave though. This is because human hair weave is easier to maintain and dries faster. On the other hand synthetic weave might not be as good because they tend to be heavy and take long to dry, which means if you don’t have a hand dryer at home chances are you will be walking with a smelly bush on your head. Anytime you want to wear a weave, go for human hair. They might be expensive, but unlike synthetic, they can be washed and set just like our original hair and be re-used for at least five times more.Every woman will tell you there are two seasons in their lives that they have to work hard on keeping their hair from breakage. One is during the rainy season and the other is when one is expectant. It might be expensive to change hairstyle every few weeks during this season, but it is worth every effort, you don’t want to walk in the office and be looked at like an alien. Choose the hairstyle of your choice and look smart.
