Women APR vs Ruhango 2pmMenNUR vs APR 4pmThe finals of the inaugural Malaria volleyball tournament, men and women are set for today at Amahoro Indoor Stadium.In the men’s category, league champions APR take on the rivals National University of Rwanda, while Ruhango face an uphill task of upstaging the military women side. With the national league championship and Carré d’As trophies firmly in the bag, APR goes into today’s final as clear favorites."I have young team, I am not sure that they can win this trophy but we are ready for the challenge, I am building the team, but we are going into the finals determined to win,” APR coach Sammy Mullinge said."I know NUR is a very tough team, which can cause us many problems and can win any game but we will go into play with motivation to end the year on a high,” added the former Kenyan international.With the disappointment of missing out on the national league and the Carré d’As tournament last season, NUR trainer Fidele ‘Fidjo’ Nyirimana told Times Sport that he wants to win this trophy as consolation."Winning this tournament will do us good as we prepare for the new season. I believe we have a team good enough to compete favourably against anyone,” stated the former national team player.To book their place in the finals APR overcame Kigali Volleyball Club 3-0, while NUR upstaged the Institute of Agriculture, Technology and Education of Kibungo (INATEK) with the same margin.In the ladies’ semi-finals, APR thrashed Rwamagana 3-0, while Ruhango beat Rwanda Revenue Authority 3-2. The tourney is sponsored by Imbuto Foundation to the tune of Rwf17 million.
