Man City top EPL list for spending on agent fees

LONDON – Manchester City spent more than any other Premier League side on agents’ fees over the past year, with £10.54m going to player’s representatives.It is the second 12-month period in a row that City have topped the list, having spent £9.66m between 1 October 2010 and 30 September 2011. Liverpool committed £8.6m to fees, while Queens Park Rangers spent £6.82m.The £77m total spent by clubs between 1 October 2011 and 30 September 2012 is up £5.13m on the previous 12 months.City, who won the Premier League title in 2011-12, have invested heavily to bring in a series of high-profile players since Sheikh Mansour took over the club in September 2008.During the recent accounting period, City signed Jack Rodwell for £12m from Everton and also completed moves for Javi Garcia (£16m from Benfica), Scott Sinclair (£8m from Swansea), Matija Nastasic (£12m from Fiorentina) and Maicon (undisclosed fee from Inter Milan).QPR’s total represents a significant rise from their total of £2.5m in the previous period.The west London side made a number of significant signings, including Stephane M’bia from Marseille, Samba Diakite from Nancy and the free signings of Jose Bosingwa, Robert Green and Julio Cesar.The lowest spenders on agents’ fees was newly promoted Southampton, who, with a total of £646,106, were the only one of the 20 top-flight clubs to spend less than £1m.
