Jane Kayitesi was crowned Miss Mt. Kenya University last weekend. Grace Mugoya caught up with her shortly after she was declared the most beautiful girl at the university: Apart from what we already know, who is Jane Kayitesi? I am 19 years old, born in Goma in the Democratic Republic of Congo. I came back home after the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. I am a first year Business student at Mt. Kenya University, Rwanda. Did you ever think that you would be crowned Miss Mt. Kenya University? It was my wish but I was not very sure I could win because the competition was tight. What do you think propelled you to the crown?  I my view I think that confidence contributed greatly to my success. When you were declared winner last weekend, there were mixed reactions in the audience, some attendees claiming that someone else deserved the crown…Well, I was not one of the judges and am sure the panel of judges comprised professionals. But – with all honesty – when you look at the girls you competed against, do you really believe that you are the most beautiful? Like I said, judges consider many things in addition to physical appearance. If you were on the panel of judges, who would you have selected winner of the contest? Fortunately or unfortunately, I was not among the judges but I would have selected the winner basing on my colleagues’ decisions.  You are a beautiful young woman. Who is the lucky man? Thanks for the compliment but I am not in any relationship because I believe it’s not time yet.
