Hundreds of mourners turned out to pay tribute to the renowned comedian and musician Hussein Ramadhani Mkieti, whose remains were laid to rest in Muheza District, Tanga Region on Wednesday.Mkieti, who was affectionately known as ‘Sharo Milionea’ or ‘Sharobaro’, died in a road accident when his car rammed into a roadside tree on the Tanga-Segera highway in Muheza District on Monday evening.According to sources in Tanga, the comedian was buried in a cemetery at his native Lusanga village, amid massive crowd that came to pay their last respects. Mourners from different parts of the country, including politicians, actors and musicians joined family members, relatives and friends at the funeral of the fallen comedian.Among those who attended were Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) Ideology and Publicity Secretary Nape Nnauye as well as members of Bongo Movie stars. Mkieti’s unique comedy style that depicted a spoilt, boisterous rich young man had captured the hearts of many TV viewers in the country. He is best remembered for his role in the malaria-themed film ‘Chumo’ in which he acted alongside former Miss Tanzania runner-up Jokate Mwegelo and Hemed Mlela.The film won several international awards, including best Short Narrative award at the Northwest Projections Film Festival in Bellingham and Pan African Film Festival (PAFF), ZIFF Award for Best Director and Best Actress.Born in 1985 in Tanga, Mkieti was also a rising music star, having released a couple of singles including ‘Chuki Bure’ in which he featured Dully Sykes, Changanya Changanya (feat. Ali Kiba) and Sharo Hataki (feat. Richard Mavoko).Tanzania Daily News
