Editor, This is with reference to the article, ‘Discovering Rwanda’s holy village’, which appeared in The New Times, November, 13.Please allow me to share with your esteemed readers that on the occasion of the Feast Day of Our Lady of Kibeho, which was yesterday, November, 28, a group of Indian pilgrims met and discussed plans to visit Kibeho in January, 2013.This will be the first ever organised religious tour from India to Rwanda and would serve as a good starting point for regular pilgrimages to Kibeho.Thousands of Indian pilgrims visit Our Lady of Lourdes in France and Our Lady of Fatima in Portugal every year. So why not Our Lady of Kibeho in this beautiful land of a thousand hills and a million smiles? The primary cause appears to be a lack of awareness for the latent potential that exists to promote the country for religious tourism.Rwanda always looks at new opportunities for innovation and growth. With the right inputs and the required infrastructural developments, Kibeho can soon become a much sought after destination for Indian pilgrims, just like Lourdes and Fatima.Clarence Fernandes
