President Paul Kagame, yesterday, arrived in Istanbul, Turkey, for a two-day visit where he is due to attend a conference on Global Infrastructure Initiative.

According to a statement, the President is expected today evening to give the keynote speech titled "Integrating Infrastructure into socio-economic transformation” at the meeting that will be attended by other leaders from across the world.

The meeting will discuss global conversation on planning and financing innovation in infrastructure. It is convened by McKinsey and Company, in partnership with TIME Magazine, CNBC and Albright Stonebridge Group, under the theme "Rethink Infrastructure.”

Throughout the conference, the statement says, participants, including politicians, business leaders and non-governmental organisations will exchange ideas and debate based on global best practices and innovative approaches.

The conference will be structured around four pillars: deciding what to build; optimising existing infrastructure; smarter, faster, better and cheaper approaches to an infrastructure revolution, and the redefining of finance and public accountability.

The Global Infrastructure Initiative is the first of its kind and plans to launch a global debate that will seek innovative solutions for how to plan, operate, build and finance the infrastructure required to support a world that is growing to nine billion people.

Istanbul, a city renown for being the fastest growing and most dynamic centres in the world, has been at the centre of Turkey's economic resurgence and has been hailed as an example of infrastructure innovation for more than a thousand years.
