40 graduate in leadership in Rwamagana

RWAMAGANA – Forty students yesterday graduated from Cornerstone Leadership Academy School, Rwamagana after completing a three year course in leadership.

RWAMAGANA – Forty students yesterday graduated from Cornerstone Leadership Academy School, Rwamagana after completing a three year course in leadership.The colorful ceremony was attended among others by the Governor of Eastern Province Odette Uwamariya, parents, and teachers across the Province.The school which is located in Musha sector of Rwamagana district is funded by an American project, Cornerstone Development Limited.Cornerstone that opened its doors in 2007 currently boasts of 120 students’ population.According to the Manager Directing of Cornerstone Development in Africa, Tim Creauter, the school’s vision, is to promote and develop high level leadership skills and sciences for the youth in developing countries.Tim Creauter said that a school of similar nature will be established in Southern Sudan in 2014."We operate in other African countries, Uganda, Tanzania…the overall aim is to give high level skills in science and leadership to youth.Students must have vision for their lives…life without vision is meaningless. This is what we teach our students,” he said.As part of the hands-on experience, students of the school are advised to take part in volunteer services."You don’t need to be paid to serve your community…we encourage our students to volunteer and serve the society even when they are not paid. This part of what it entails to posses leadership skills”.Johnson Karamuzi, the school’s head teacher said that the school was exemplary in the country."We were the best performers in both science and arts subjects in the country last year… it’s not only leadership skills we offer that gives us an edge above other schools. We follow the national curriculum, but we have leadership skills subject exclusive to our school,” he said.He noted that the school respect gender balance, adding that the number of girls and boys students was equal.Cornerstone started operating in Africa in 1990.
