In a country where dancehall music is not so popular – as compared to local R&B or hip hop – it takes a brave artiste to make a foray into this Jamaican genre of music. Up-and-coming musician, Ainee Ishimwe Kamikazi, is one such brave artiste who is determined to make herself a name through dancehall music. According to the 22-year-old, she was inspired to take on dancehall by the little attention local musicians gave to dancehall music style. Having seen that there was a gap to fill, she rushed to the studio and recorded 3 singles, including Nukuri, Ikorori and Ntituzatana. "I realised that there were very few musicians ready to take up dancehall music,” she says. "I was also inspired by female musicians in the region who have proved they can stand out especially when they go for what others have not ventured into,” she says.
